The Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF) at ISTA supports a vibrant, international scientific community with state-of-the-art EM infrastructure. The facility is currently expanding its equipment park with cutting-edge double-corrected microscope with extended analytical capability and with strong In-Situ application focus.
We are looking for a highly motivated person with relevant expertise, who will support EMF users from the field of chemistry, physics, and material science within the dynamic and collaborative environment of ISTA.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the EM systems with a focus on material science applications, including data collection/analysis, and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Train and assist users, provide on-site support, and ensure competed supervision in daily EM operations
  • Monitor system performance, including regular system checks and system alignments, to guarantee optimal operation and high-quality results
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Contribute actively to the further development of EM methodologies and the continuous advancement of the EMF’s capabilities

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Physics, Chemistry, or Material Science
  • Strong practical experience in standard and advanced S/TEM imaging techniques such as
  • Differential Phase Contrast, 4D STEM, and Ptychography on a level of data collection, data analysis and interpretation
  • Proven hands-on experience in analytical techniques like EDS and EELS on the level of data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Hands-on experience with In-Situ Heating, Biasing, and Liquid Cell Electrochemistry experiments
  • Experience with Focus Ion Beam is an advantage
  • Strong computational skills, with a specific focus on data collection, analysis and processing
  • A reliable and well-organized team player who can also work independently
  • Service oriented mindset and motivation to support researches in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills in English
