Ph. D. Researcher (F/M/D): Mapping Atomic Defects

Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student (f/m/d) to develop new methodologies for studying point defects in van der Waals materials using momentum-resolved scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). The successful candidate will work within an international collaboration involving Montanuniversität Leoben/Austria, Fritz-Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society Berlin/Germany, the Ernst Ruska-Centre at Jülich Research Center Jülich/Germany and the University of Technology in Graz/Austria. The position will be based in Graz, Austria.

Requirements

  • (Almost) completed Master in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent
  • Strong interest in electron microscopy, diffraction/phase retrieval concepts, materials synthesis and development of novel quantitative characterization methodologies.
  • Communication skills in spoken and written English
  • Independent and reliable working style; team-oriented, motivated to work across institutions.
